Northern New Jersey’s Top 5 Eats by a food loving couple!
Hi! We are Mike and Karli from Bergen County, NJ. We have been dating for over two and a half years but have only been The Food Couple for one year now! We’ve always been known for eating out and eating a LOT so we started our page just as a joke for ourselves. Surprisingly after only a few weeks it started to really blow up and we began to get into it a little more seriously. People just love food and looking at pictures of it! We love finding new places and trying new things we’ve never had. We look forward to our date nights on Friday because we try new foods! Our family and friends love hearing our recommendations so it motivates us to share our adventures with everyone else on Instagram as well as take recommendations from others. We are having such a fun journey and will continue to share our food moodz with other foodies around the world!
1. Country Pancake House
Address: 140 East Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood, NJ
What to Eat/Drink: Oversized Pancakes
Country Pancake House is a small breakfast stop for someone with a big appetite. They serve over 100 different amazing varieties of pancakes which can also include toppings for French toast and waffles. Their serving size is enough for four people to eat and will last you two days’ worth of leftovers. Their corn bread as a starter makes the wait for your meal less terrible. It is always warm and fresh with the sweetest butter around. We go almost every weekend and try not to order the same thing twice. There is always a line on the weekends but if you get there early it goes pretty fast. They take cash only but you don’t need to take a lot out because everything is very cheap especially for the amount of food you get. From pancakes to burgers-there is something for everyone to love for breakfast lunch and dinner. We highly recommend everyone to make a trip for a lot of fun and full stomach if you’re in the area!
2. De Novo European Pub
Address: 275 Bellevue Ave, Montclair, NJ
What to Eat/Drink: Sesame Crusted Tuna
We found De Novo while researching a date night in Montclair. Montclair is such a beautiful town as it is and this little pub is actually part of the train station in town which is super fun. The restaurant itself has such a nice ambiance inside and has an awesome bar area to sit around. The drink options on the dinner menu were a lot of fun and were not too strong or overpowering. The food options varied around pasta dishes, meat, and elevated American entrees. It is a little bit more of a pricey option when picking a place but for a date night or even a night out with friends it is absolutely worth it. We plan on going back soon to try some new entrees and drinks we didn’t get the first time!
3. Sushi X
Address: 23 Chestnut St, Ridgewood, NJ
What to Eat/Drink: All you can eat sushi
Sushi X is a small sushi location and a hidden gem. They have their specialty
sushi menu but they are best known for their all-you-can-eat option. For up
to just $25 dollars a person, you can eat endless amount of sushi rolls along
with their kitchen menu including chicken teriyaki and wantons. They take
reservations for a party of at least 3 or more but we recommend going with a
group to share such a large plate. For the amount of raw fish being served
daily, the rolls are always fresh and clean with is important. After you are
stuffed to the max you need to try their green tea ice cream (which is
included) to end off on a sweet note. If you love sushi and large portions, you
cannot miss out on this weekend hangout with friends at Sushi X.
4. Van Dyk’s Homemade Ice Cream
Address: 145 Ackerman Ave, Ridgewood, NJ
What to Eat/Drink: Ice cream
Van Dyk’s Ice cream is probably the best location in northern New Jersey to
get fresh creamy ice cream. They have dozens of different flavors being
made weekly on site, along with seasonal treats available during special
holidays. Serving size is obviously a huge factor in the places we go which is
why coming here for dessert could be considered a meal! We typically get a
double scoop of two different flavors so we can satisfy our taste buds, but we
can barely finish it! They take cash or checks only, but we promise you get a
lot of bang for your buck. From March to December, the line is always out the
door no matter what the weather is. Finding this hidden gem pushed back on
a small side street was like finding a treasure chest. For those with a sweet
tooth, this is the place for you!
5. Glaze Artisan Donuts
Address: 1055 Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, NJ
What to Eat/Drink: Italian Rainbow Donut
Glaze Donuts was just recently named the number one highest rated donut
shops in New Jersey. They are known for their hand-crafted artisan donuts
and even their coffee in shop! Whether you are getting one for breakfast or a
dozen for a party, you are guaranteed the tastiest desserts every single time.
They make donut sundaes and even ice cream donut sandwiches. It is such a
fun place to stop if you are in Wayne or their original location in New Milford.
We go almost every week, and we pick up some treats for every family party.
We also ordered a donut tower for a Superbowl party and it was a huge hit.
The donuts are big, full of flavor, and the service is just as sweet. We would
absolutely recommend taking a drive if you are a dessert lover!
